Things to do at the Aiguille du Midi

The Aiguille du Midi cable car climbs from Chamonix, in France, to 3,842 metres in two stages, one of the highest-altitude cable cars in the world. Chamonix is roughly 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes by road from Geneva, plus the ride up.

In high season, booking a timed slot in advance is strongly recommended; without one, queues can run for hours and same-day tickets may sell out. At the summit, expect real winter conditions even in summer: cold, wind, and noticeably short breath from the altitude, so a warm layer matters whatever the season.

The terrace and glass Skywalk platform get crowded at peak times. The panorama over Mont Blanc and the surrounding Alps depends entirely on the day's weather, with no guarantee of a clear view.
