Things to do in Yvoire

Yvoire is a fortified medieval village on the French shore of Lake Geneva, roughly 45 minutes to an hour from Geneva by car or bus, and part of France despite the shared Schengen border — bring an ID card or passport for the crossing, since border checks can still happen.

A seasonal boat also links Geneva to Yvoire, typically running from spring to autumn only, so it cannot be relied on year-round. The village is small: narrow, flower-lined lanes, the exterior of a 14th-century castle (its interior is private, not open to visitors), and the paid Jardin des Cinq Sens garden are the main sights, easily covered in two to three hours.

Yvoire is consistently ranked among France's official "most beautiful villages," which draws heavy crowds in summer.
