Things to do in Lausanne

Lausanne sits on the Swiss (north) shore of Lake Geneva, reached from Geneva by direct train in roughly 35 to 45 minutes, with a train every few minutes at peak times and no border crossing involved. The city is built on a steep slope between the railway station and the lakefront, so getting around means real hills, not a flat stroll.

A full day covers the main sights comfortably: the Gothic cathedral above the old town, the redeveloped Flon district for shops and cafes, and Ouchy down by the water with its promenade and boat piers. A quick return trip from Geneva is possible but only skims one or two of these areas.

Prices are in Swiss francs (CHF), the same currency as Geneva.
