Things to do around Mont Blanc

Mont Blanc is the massif and the mountain, not a single site: at 4,805 metres it is the highest summit in the Alps, sitting in France and best approached from the Chamonix valley, about 1 hour to 1 hour 15 by car from Geneva.

This page is an overview of the massif rather than a practical guide to any one viewpoint — the Aiguille du Midi cable car and the Mer de Glace glacier, both covered on their own pages, are the two main ways to get close to it without climbing gear.

The summit itself is reached only by a multi-day, guided technical expedition; it is not accessible to visitors without mountaineering experience. A clear view of the summit depends entirely on the weather and is not guaranteed on any given day, from Geneva or even from Chamonix itself.
