Things to do in Vevey

Vevey sits on the north shore of Lake Geneva, about an hour from Geneva by train with no change. It is smaller and quieter than neighbouring Montreux, with a lakeside market, a giant fork sculpture planted in the water opposite the promenade, and the Swiss headquarters of Nestlé.

The main paid attraction is Chaplin's World, Charlie Chaplin's former home turned museum, roughly a 10-minute bus ride from the centre; there is no medieval castle here, and no jazz festival. Vevey also works as the walking or bus entry point into the Lavaux vineyard terraces, the UNESCO-listed slopes stretching towards Lausanne.

Most visitors treat it as a relaxed half-day stop rather than a base for a full stay.
