Things to do in Geneva

Geneva sits at the western tip of Lake Geneva, at about 375m altitude, where the Rhône flows out of the lake and meets the Arve at the Jonction. 1% VAT already included and service built into every bill, so no tip to calculate.

Tap water is safe to drink, and hotels and hostels hand out a free Geneva Transport Card covering buses, trams and trains for the stay. One to two days covers the city centre's essentials — the Old Town, the lakefront and the Jet d'Eau — before day trips to CERN, the Salève or the lake shore become worth adding.
